Last week marked the introduction of Roblox in its preliminary phase on Meta's Quest virtual reality platforms, swiftly achieving over a million installations, as stated by Roblox's chief, David Baszucki. This figure hints at a potentially high adoption rate among VR enthusiasts, especially in light of information from The Verge's journalist Alex Heath in February that Meta has distributed close to 20 million units of these VR headsets. It seems a substantial portion of Quest users are sampling what Roblox has to offer.
In any case, the launch of this trial phase by Roblox and Meta intends to provide creators an opportunity to refine and fine-tune their content for the Quest systems. There's a valid motive for this: my own sessions with Roblox on the Quest 2 encountered several technical hiccups. Nonetheless, I anticipate that the issues in the more sought-after Roblox experiences will be addressed by the time the application fully debuts on Quest platforms.
Come late September at Code 2023, we may hear more insights from Baszucki about Roblox's strides in the VR domain.
